Welcome

I am very pleased to welcome you to Grove Road Primary School – our family school where all are equally valued.

Grove Road is a small school and we see that as one of our strengths. We know our children well. We know their personalities, their interests, what they are good at and where they need our help. We want every child to feel that they belong here and to know that there are adults in school who believe in them.

We have high expectations for our children, both in their learning and in the people they are becoming. We want them to be curious about the world, to ask questions, think hard, try new things and be creative. We want them to experience success, but also to learn that getting things wrong, finding something difficult and having another go are an important part of learning.

As children grow through Grove Road, we want them to become more confident in themselves and more independent. We want them to find their voice and learn how to use it well. Just as importantly, we want them to listen to others, show empathy and understand that other people may see and experience the world differently. We give children opportunities to make choices, take initiative, contribute to school life and see that their actions matter.

Our 18-place Autism Spectrum Condition Centre is an important part of Grove Road. The children in the Centre are part of our school family and share in the life and experiences of the school, while receiving specialist teaching and support based on their individual needs. The Centre adds a great deal to our school and to children’s understanding of difference, inclusion and one another.

Parents and carers know their children better than anyone, so working closely with families matters to us. We want you to know what your child is learning, to feel comfortable talking to us and to be involved in their education. When home and school know and trust one another, we can do much more for our children.

Our promise is that children will leave Grove Road with strong foundations for whatever comes next. We want them to leave us curious, creative, resilient, compassionate and confident – knowing who they are, believing in what they can become and understanding that they can make a difference.

I am very proud to be Headteacher of Grove Road. I am proud of our children, our staff and our families, and of the school we continue to build together.

If you are considering Grove Road for your child, please come and visit us. Meet our children and staff, walk around the school and see what Grove Road is like for yourself. We would be very pleased to welcome you.

Mrs Grace Beckford
