Science at Grove Road
“Equipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls that adventure Science.”
(Edwin Hubble - American Astronomer)
Vision and aims at Grove Road
Here at Grove Road we aim to provide children with as many experiences as possible to allow them to explore and understand the world around them. We want our students to be inquisitive learners and use the curriculum to present children with a broad range of experiences that will help them develop both their knowledge and understanding of science and the attitudes and skills for its exploration.
During years 1 and 2, pupils are taught to use the following practical scientific methods, processes and skills through the teaching of the programme of study content:
Asking simple questions and recognising that they can be answered in different ways, observing closely, using simple equipment
Performing simple tests
Identifying and classifying
Using their observations and ideas to suggest answers to questions
Gathering and recording data to help in answering questions.
(National Curriculum 2014)
We plan our science to ensure that wherever possible it contains cross-curricular links and is not taught in isolation. Where science mini topics are planned alongside a main topic, links with other curriculum areas are exploited.
